TELEPhone

Telephone is an online art exhibition directed by Nathan Langston, who orchestrated a worldwide game of telephone among artists across different mediums. In the end, the piece featured 395 works by artists from 930 cities in 65 countries. Each artist was assigned a fellow creator’s work containing a specific message. Once assigned a piece, the objective was to see what was “whispered” to you, interpreting the received message and passing it along with your own art piece to the next artist.

"I hope this little game illustrates that art does not happen in a void. Even in a time of appropriation by artificial intelligence, I STILL hope that you know that art is based on art, which is based on art, which is based on art, back to the beginning of what makes us human. Everything is connected and everything influences everything else. It’s within this vast web of causality that we find our own perfectly unique and non-replicable voices."

- Nathan Langston, Director of TELEPHONE
